Museum Rotterdam recently received a bequest from Ms. Hille, who passed away in 2022. Because the will was drawn up before the museum became an independent institution, the amount has now been allocated to Museum Rotterdam via the Municipality of Rotterdam. It concerns more than €500,000, which must be used specifically for expanding the museum’s collection. Ms. Hille also donated a number of coins to the museum, which will soon be available to view online in the collection.
Director Léontine Meijer-van Mensch expresses gratitude for this generous gesture, which makes a lasting contribution to the collection: “This comes at a very good time, as we are working on the city museum at a new location in Het Steiger. With this bequest, we can further strengthen our acquisition fund. It also helps us to map Rotterdam’s heritage and history more thoroughly and make it accessible to everyone.”
The Municipality of Rotterdam also expresses its great gratitude to the Hille family for this special and valuable contribution. “The bequest from Ms. Hille is a wonderful support for Museum Rotterdam and for the city. It helps the museum further expand the history of Rotterdam and make it accessible to everyone. Contributions like these are of inestimable value for our cultural institutions and ensure that we can properly preserve our heritage for the future.” Said Kasmi, Alderman for Culture in Rotterdam.
