X21 launches unique T-shirt inspired by Rotterdam heritage from the Museum Rotterdam collection

The Rotterdam lifestyle shop X21 is collaborating once again with Museum Rotterdam. Following a successful partnership last year, they are now presenting an exclusive T-shirt inspired by a remarkable object from the museum’s collection: a historic wall plaque featuring a view of De Hef.
Lifestyle meets city history
X21, founded in 1993 as Rotterdam’s very first lifestyle shop, has been an important part of the city’s street style for over 25 years. From its store on the oldest street in the city, X21 developed its own line, focusing on design, graphics, and quality.
For this new T-shirt, X21 explored the collection of Museum Rotterdam and selected the wall plaque with object number 66268 as basis for the design. The plaque depicts a blue-and-white scene of De Hef bridge, combined with floral motifs and the coat of arms of Rotterdam. The printed dates, “1328” and “1928”, link two key moments in Rotterdam’s history: the granting of local jurisdiction and governance to the eastern part of the city in 1328, and its 600-year anniversary in 1928, celebrated alongside the newly constructed De Hef.
A link between past and present
The original wall plaque was once sold by Jungerhans, a former Rotterdam store specializing in luxury household goods that operated from 1882 to 2007. Interestingly, Jungerhans was located for many years on the same street as X21. This makes the object a direct link between Rotterdam’s heritage, local businesses, and the city’s long history.
A meaningful collaboration
With this T-shirt, X21 and Museum Rotterdam join forces once again to bring together fashion and culture. The design symbolizes the meeting of urban lifestyle and Rotterdam heritage, aiming to engage and connect both X21’s audience and museum visitors.
The result is a T-shirt that carries both the history and the modern identity of Rotterdam.
