Museum Rotterdam has set up shop in the Timmerhuis, the latest architectural marvel in Rotterdam. The museum presents the tale of its city in the most impressive space of the new multifunctional building, between the bustle of shops, offices and restaurants. You will discover Rotterdam as it was, is and will be. An eye-opening experience for tourists and a journey of recognition and discovery for the locals.
The story of Rotterdam is told through items from the collection of the museum combined with the experiences of Rotterdam people past and present. The space itself tells a story in its merging of the ultra-modern glass and steel structure of Rotterdam starchitect Rem Koolhaas with the original concrete and brick of the reconstruction era monument. The multifunctional Timmerhuis is no traditional museum building by any means, but this suits the subject matter of the museum perfectly. In Rotterdam, we like to approach things differently.
